tamil actress Priyamani in 'Thirakkatha'

After a short break, Priyamani is again back to Malayalam. She will be playing the role of Malavika, a film artist in the new movie ‘Thriakkatha' directed by Renjith.

The film which is a satirical story about film making has Prithviraj in the lead. Priyamani had been with Prithviraj, earlier in 2004 for the movie 'Satyam' which was a considerable hit of the year. The actress one again tried her luck in Malayalam, the very same year in the film 'Ottanaanayam' which remained a dud in the Box Office.

Priyamani hit big time after her successful portrayal of a village girl in 'Paruthiveeran' which was much applauded around the globe, even in many international festivals. She had been pretty busy with her assignments from Tamil and Telugu, after this mega hit.

Priyamani who has just completed a Telugu movie, will again appear with Prithviraj for the Tamil version of Malayalam hit 'Classmates'.

'Meesa Madhavan' joins the remake list

For the last few years we have been witnessing a plenty of Malayalam films, remade in Tamil. Joining this list of films is 'Meesa Madhavan' one of the biggest hits of Mollywood.

The film which established Dileep as the uncrowned super star of Mollywood, was a turning point in the careers of many like Indrajith, Salimkumar, Jyothirmayi, Renjan Pramod, Rimi Tomi and Devanand.

The Tamil version of Meesa Madhavan will feature Karthi Sivakumar, after the super success of his debut film 'Paruthiveeran'.

As per the latest reports Nayanthara will don the role of Jyothirmayi in the original. The film will be directed by Prabhakaran. Other details of cast and crew are being worked out.

Mammotty's 'Mayabazaar' to start this October

Superstar Mammootty will start working for ‘Mayabazaar’ his new film with debutante director Thomas Sebastian, from this October. The movie will feature talented actor Prakashraj, opposite Mammootty.

Prakashraj who is the scion of villainy in Tamil films is considered as the highest-paid villain in the history of Indian Cinema. One of the most natural actors in the film industry, he had worked with Mammootty years ago in the film 'Indraprastham', when he was a relatively a fresh face in the field.

‘Mayabazaar’ will be his fifth Malayalam film, the previous ones being 'Indraprastham', 'The Prince', 'Oru Yathramozhi' and 'Pandipada'.

The life of laborers, who work for demolishing old vehicles, is the background of 'Mayabazaar' which will feature two heroines, the one being Meera Vasudev, who was Mohanlal's co-star in ‘Thanmathra’. Mammootty plays the role of a laborer named Sivenkutty, with impressive cast support in Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Salim Kumar, Suraj Vanjaramood and Bijukuttan.

The director of the project, Thomas Sebastian, a long-time associate of leading directors like Sibi Malayail, Blessy and Sundardas, has also penned the screenplay for the film with support from Govind Vijayan.

Saji Mangalath will produce this movie under the banner of Akhil Movies.

'Cycle' rides ahead of its Malayalam rivals

Kochi, March 5 (IANS) Director Johny Antony's "Cycle" is still going strong at the box office and debutant Vineeth Sreenivasan is getting a lot of mileage. There is no competition worth talking about and, therefore, the film will have a smooth ride in the coming weeks.

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. "Cycle" - Writer James Albert and director Johny Antony have made a contemporary film to which the youth could relate. Lead actors Vineeth Sreenivasan and Vinu Mohan are refreshing. The film is a true definition of a youth movie.

2. "Roudram" - Director Renji Panikkar doles out his brand of filmmaking with Mammootty at the helm of affairs. The star plays a police officer who won't bend before the powers-that-be but will bring everyone corrupt to the book. There is the typical topical air to the subject as the director has put in everything that has hogged the headlines over the last few months, which the audience loves.

3. "Sound of Boot" - A Shaji Kailas thriller, starring Suresh Gopi, has the settings changed to 1986 for the sake of novelty. Otherwise, it is the same old thing.

4. "Kadha Parayumbol" - The re-entry of Sreenivasan starrer into the list is prompted by the lacklustre performance of other films at the box office.

5. "College Kumaran" - This film adds itself to the list of flops starring Mohanlal, but remains here as a token due to lack of competition.

Dileep and Roshan Andrews Team Up

Director Rosshan Andrrews of Udayanaanu Thaaram fame (who also made Notebook) is all set to team up with Dileep in a forthcoming film.

To be produced by Karunakaran under the banner of Carlton Films, this Rosshan Andrrews-Dileep film will have Guinness Gilbert as the title. What is on the cards is a full length comedy film that will fully exploit Dileep's capabilities in the genre.

Discussions are still going on and more details regarding the theme and cast are awaited. Meanwhile it is to be remembered that Rosshan Andrrews had announced a Mohanlal-starrer named Casanova, but no news is so far heard of it.

Let's wait and see as to which one begins first.
